HP Labs made announcement last week that it has opened a new research facility in Singapore, which will focus on developing cloud computing services, data center architecture and sustainable practices.

This is 3rd research facility of the company in the Asia Pacific region and overall 7th worldwide. The center will help advance HP Labs' for achieving goals as well as HP's overall business objectives. There will be a new facility will work on Cirious, HP's vision for creating an enterprise cloud computing platform and this is undertaken along with HP Labs' Service Automation and Integration Lab in Silicon Valley and the Automated Infrastructure Lab in England.

The lab will make its focus on researching the advancement of data center design through the use of multiple energy sources; such as bio-fuel, solar and electric grid. More purposely, the facility will work towards lowering of the total cost of ownership by 75% in data centers and lessen the carbon footprint by 50%.

The main goal of the researchers at HP Labs is to address the most complex challenges facing our customers and society in the next coming 10 years. By collaboration with the long-standing customers in the Asia Pacific region, HP Labs Singapore will help expansion of HP's global strategy of accelerating the pace of technology transfer from R&D into the hands of our customers.

Singapore is actually an ideal location for HP's research and design because the market is largely open to international trade and investment and is a hub for many of the company's largest customer accounts. The country is also home to HP's business headquarters for the Asia Pacific region.
