Google releases security scanner ‘Skipfish’

Internet giant Google has released an open source web application scanner, which has the function of letting the developers for checking their applications for the security loopholes.

As per the blog post for the last week from white hat hacker and computer expert heading the project, Skipfish is a free open source, automated, active web applications and security reconnaissance tool.

The coding is done in pure C, with highly optimized HTTP handling and minimal CPU footprint. Skipfish can easily process about 2,000 requests per second with responsive targets. It is quite simple for using with its automated heuristics supporting a variety of diversified web frameworks and mixed-technology websites. It is done with automatic learning capabilities, form auto-completion and on-the-fly wordlist creation. It also features cutting-edge security logic with high quality, low false positive, differential security checks, which are capable of spotting a range of restrained flaws, inclusive of blind injection vectors.

Skipfish is the newest effort from Google for promotion of safety on the Internet. The company views the help of web developers to build secured and reliable web applications as a primary step in achieving those targets. Google released projects, like passive security assessment tool Ratproxy and the Browser Security Handbook, which is a comprehensive security guide for web developers. The company has cooperated with the community for improvement of security of 3rd party browsers.

The scanner is now available for download and its detailed project documentation is available on a wiki, which provides easy-to-follow information about implementation of the software.
