Businesses who are considering using web hosting services to boost their online presence have been told to make sure their site is up to scratch. Allan Hoffman, writer for the New Jersey Star-Ledger, advised firms to look at the planning, building and maintenance of their websites in order to work out whether they are taking advantage of all the tools on offer to them. Companies should have a contact form to make it easy for potential clients to get in touch, a search form for better navigation of the site, an 'about' page describing the business and zero spelling errors. Mr Hoffman added that those looking to make use of social networking could add links to a Facebook page or WordPress blog. "WordPress was created as blogging software, but now you can use it as a full-fledged content management system for everything from an online magazine to a company website," he explained. Andrew Nacin recently reported on the WordPress blog that its plug-in directory had registered its 100 millionth download, adding that the open-source community's growth has been "tremendous" over the last few years. |
